About
Karthik Penumetsa, M.D., is a gastroenterologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive organs, including the esophagus, stomach, intestines, pancreas, liver and gallbladder. He has a special interest in Barrett's esophagus, inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's Disease or ulcerative colitis, and preventive colon cancer screenings. He has undergone advanced training in endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), an outpatient procedure that lets physicians remove tumors just beneath the gastrointestinal wall without surgery. EMR may be used to treat Barrett's esophagus, precancerous or superficial cancerous tumors such as gastric or small bowel lesions, early-stage esophageal cancer or colon cancer. Because there is no incision, patients may recover faster and with less pain than from open or laparoscopic surgery.
Services include:
-
Upper GI endoscopy
-
Colonoscopy
-
Flexible sigmoidoscopy
-
Radiofrequency ablation (to treat Barrett's esophagus)
-
Endoscopic mucosal resection
-
Variceal banding
-
Capsule endoscopy
