Direct Access Colonoscopy
We make it easier to schedule a screening.
The direct access colonoscopy service at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital allows healthy individuals ages 45 and older to schedule and prepare for a colonoscopy screening without an office visit.*
The physician performing the colonoscopy will meet with you at the time of the procedure and afterward will talk with you about the findings. Results and recommendations for follow-up will be sent to your referring physician.**
To confirm your eligibility and schedule a procedure, call (570) 552-7189.
Most major insurance plans, including GHP, are accepted.
*Patients with the following conditions may be advised to schedule an office visit before the procedure: Underlying abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits or any other gastrointestinal issues. Patients with significant illnesses, including poorly controlled diabetes, significant cardiac disease, severe breathing problems or kidney problems, will need to schedule an office visit.
**Appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis. An order from a physician or qualified healthcare provider is not required, but the patient must provide a physician/provider name when an appointment is made. If the patient does not have a physician/provider, a list will be provided for selection. All reports will be sent to the physician/provider, and the patient is responsible for follow-up. Check with your insurance provider to confirm coverage for a screening.
