Commonwealth Health Physician Network cardiovascular surgeons are dedicated to offering specialized surgical options to patients with heart disease. One of these innovations is multi-arterial coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), which is a specialized approach to treating coronary artery disease.
Traditional bypass surgery typically uses one artery along with veins from the leg. Multi-arterial CABG goes a step further by using two or more arteries—often including both internal mammary arteries as well as the radial artery from the arm—instead of relying solely on vein grafts from the leg. Because arteries are more resistant to future blockages and tend to stay open longer, this approach can provide a more durable solution for many patients.
Reasons for the procedure:
Our cardiac surgery team has the training and experience to perform complex multi-arterial bypass procedures with precision and care. As part of a multidisciplinary heart team, they carefully evaluate each patient’s overall health, medical history and other factors to determine the most appropriate surgical approach.
If you’re facing heart surgery or exploring treatment options for coronary artery disease, ask your cardiologist whether a multi-arterial approach may be right for you.
